Strategy in One DaySetting GoalsMeeting Facilitation

~ SETTING GOALS ~

Without a worthy goal, deeply desired, nothing is accomplished. Goal setting starts with facing the Brutal Facts. What are we most concerned about? What keeps us up at night? Our answers create a list of issues that becomes a catalyst for generating strategic alternatives.

Note: It is important to name the elephant in the room. Otherwise, the goal will be only a platitude, and the resulting strategic plan will be useless.

So we need to create a Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) which has the following attributes:

  • Envisioned Future
  • Compelling LT Goal
  • Feasible, yet a stretch
  • Clear, compelling, unifying

The importance of goal setting cannot be overstated.  Poor results usually start with a poor goal. Often, companies set the goal too low and give up before the result is achieved. A worthy goal is worth attaining, and people will endure the difficulties encountered on the path to achievement.
